The moment zoro acknowledges luffy as a captain is the starting point where the whole series takes off for me. The reason being is that it completely took me by surprise. Zoro stated that he was aiming to be the best swordsman and that he was aiming to beat a certain someone. It was seriously epic in my opinion that zoro ended up meeting dracule mihawk so early on during the baratie arc. It was during the middle of a fight. And what did zoro learn? He found out the big gap between his skills and mihawk. Only then after losing  do we see zoro vouch to never lose again and acknowledging luffy’s ambition to be the pirate king. Because the pirate king could not have anyone lesser than the best swordsman om his crew.
