The flowers seemed nonchalant
The sun refused to rise today.
We awoke to darkness.
The streetlamps would not give up their hours of sleep.
They had all shut off.
The lights in the house, irreverent.
The moon had gone to wherever she goes.
The stars decided to abscond (they’ve always been scared of responsibility).
The roosters, confused, cawed like ravens.
Dogs, in a first for their lives, forgot to eat.
The employed called each other, to confirm the news.
The jobless hardly noticed.
Grass refused to grow.
Trees laughed at our anxiety.
The flowers seemed nonchalant.
Thankfully, music decided to continue playing.
We gathered on the street and listened.
It was actually kind of nice.
