DREAMS

DREAMS

I have never had one dream, I’ve had billions. When I was very small, about four or five years old, my dream was to be an astronaut. I would pretend I was flying through space on a rocket ship and it would make me feel over the moon, literally. One day at kindergarten, we all came to school and sat in a circle. The teacher asked us to go around the circle and tell the class what we wanted to be when we grew up. I was incredibly excited to tell the class my great dream. When it came to my turn, and I told the class that I wanted to be a famous astronaut, they started scoffing and laughing. “Girls can’t be astronauts!” one of the little boys yelled. I felt heartbroken. I ran...

in Music

thought I'd introduce myself🌹  My names Juliette I'm 17 and I live in Western Australia. I'm the biggest jazz nerd and love everything music and arts. My extremely rare and unique talent is to think, and my outlet for all those thoughts and ideas I like to express through creativity, I've had a bumpy childhood and I'm trying to be kind to myself. My works are very personal to me and I want to let myself feel proud to display my works, hence me trying out this app 💙 I'm excited to maybe follow and meet some interesting people and read some fascinating ideas! Thank you if you've read this far :)) xx

💫INSPIRING QUOTE💫

We know – it has been measured in many experiments – that children with strong impulse control grow to be better adjusted, more dependable, achieve higher grades in school and college and have more success in their careers than others. Success depends on the ability to delay gratification, which is precisely what a consumerist culture undermines. At every stage, the emphasis is on the instant gratification of instinct. In the words of the pop group Queen, “I want it all and I want it now.” A whole culture is being infantilised.

Self surveillance in a Panoptic society

Self surveillance in a Panoptic society

If you were unfortunate enough to have been incarcerated in England at the end of the 18th Century, you may have found yourself inside a ghoulish structure called the Panopticon.  This unique architectural structure was the brainchild of philosopher named Jeremy Bentham who, in 1791, theorised this glass-roofed, circular structure featuring prison cells facing inwards along its external wall, which faced a central guard tower. This ingenious structure allowed guards, stationed within the rotund tower, to keep all inmates in the surrounding cells operating under the assumption that they were under constant surveillance. Its ingenuity lay in the fact that the...

Virtually Friends

Virtually Friends

I suspect I was born in the wrong era. These postmodern virtual relationships that everyone is having make me feel on edge. The other day I was talking to an old friend about her newly acquired best friend. She was raving on about how lovely and incredible and gorgeous he is. When I asked her where they met, and she responded that she hadn’t met him yet, I was lost for words. To have so much trust in a virtual person to label them as your best friend sounds like hell in a handbasket to me, yet it is happening all over the globe in this day and age. I believe that friendship is wonderful and although it does require time, effort and maintenance, good friends will always return support,...
