Brett Milligan Apr 20, 2018 in Programming Coding is the future. We all know the saying "kids are the future" well, you can say the same for coding. This coding camp for kids is such an awesome idea. I wish this would have been around when I was a small boy. The kids who have been to these camps have built their own apps!
Brett Milligan Apr 19, 2018 in Writing The Greatest Poet of Our Time Gil Scott-Heron. His words will live on forever. I've got this track on at the moment. Such a great writer.
Brett Milligan Apr 19, 2018 in Sexuality Has anyone else watched this? Gay cation with Ellen Page and her best friend. It's a Vice series that explores the LGBTQ cultures around the world. Pretty eye opening stuff 🏳️🌈
Brett Milligan Apr 19, 2018 in Movies The Magic and Marvel of Wes I've been called a bit of a film nerd before. I love indie films, films that are a bit out there. Films with awesome cinematography, symmetry, unusual camera movements and intriguing characters. Also ones that don't always have a predictable, American Hollywood ending. I think my ultimate director has to Wes Anderson. His style is astounding. His use of colour palettes and symmetry really pleases me. Of all his movies, the one I fall in love with time and time again has to be The Grand Budapest Hotel. I see something new each time I watch it.
Brett Milligan Apr 19, 2018 in Entertainment The World Has Lost Another Bright Star I woke up this morning to find lots of tributes to Dale Winton in my Facebook newsfeed from my friends in the UK. Such sad news. He was just 62, which is no age to die. I spent most of my early years in England. In the 90s he presented this iconic game show on television there- Supermarket Sweep. Contestants had to grab as many items as they could from the shelves of this mock supermarket in a short amount of time and whoever had items of the most value went through to the next round. Honestly, it brought me so much joy. As did Dale. A sad loss to the entertainment industry that's for sure. May he rest in peace.
Brett Milligan Apr 19, 2018 in Art Support Young Designers If you're stuck for something to do this weekend I'd recommend hitting up the Melbourne Museum. This weekend, and right the way through until July 15th, you can check out an exhibition that displays the work of 79 of Victoria's best design students. The future of art and design. Amongst the work displayed is a 3D printed prosthetic leg and clothes made from recycled waste. The exhibition is free to view with museum entry. I went last year and I'll definitely be heading there soon. Some of those students went on to do big things in the world of design. Make sure you check it out.
Brett Milligan Apr 16, 2018 in Art Keith Haring I adore Keith Haring and, even after his passing, he still continues to bring joy to people through his art. The Keith Haring Foundation, set up in 1989 after the artist was diagnosed with AIDS, provides funding and grants to AIDS organisations and children's programmes. He used his art to create awareness around the subject and thus allow his legacy to live on.
Brett Milligan Apr 16, 2018 in Art Art for the social media age I love what Ukrainian artist and graphic designer Nastya Ptichek has done with these works of art- adding emojis to create a poignant statement about how connected we are these days, but lonelier than ever. And yes, I get the irony of sharing this on social media. (Hashtag winky face emoji).
Brett Milligan Apr 16, 2018 in Art Ai Weiwei Ai Weiwei, in my humble opinion, is possibly one of the most forward-thinking, boundary pushing artists of our time. He's not merely a creator of art, but he's also a political activist who's ruffled more than a few feathers. In 2011 he was arrested at Beijing Airport for "economic crimes" without any actual charges being filed. He's previously investigated the Chinese government for corruption and cover ups. When he lived in New York, he began to create conceptual art as well as taking up photography. The photos he took during that time is now know as a collection called The New York Photographs. Be sure to check them out. His father was the noted poet Ai Quing who was also...
