Notes On A Texas Tragedy

I learned via an old “Unsolved Mysteries” episode about two young people from a town I used to live in (San Angelo, Texas), who were victims of homicide back in 1988. I was a mere two years old at the time of the crime, but it completely changes my view of San Angelo & the community of people there. I can’t help but feel deep grief for the families of these two. Their case as I understand it remains unsolved to this day. The couple were Sally McNelly & Shane Stewart. After hearing of them, I felt it worthwhile to renew awareness of their case to the internet at large. Someone, somewhere has to know who committed their murders, and justice needs to be done at long last.

How is depression treated!!!?

Depression is among the most treatable of mental disorders. Between 80 percent and 90 percent of people with depression eventually respond well to treatment. Almost all patients gain some relief from their symptoms. Before a diagnosis or treatment, a health professional should conduct a thorough diagnostic evaluation, including an interview and possibly a physical examination. In some cases, a blood test might be done to make sure the depression is not due to a medical condition like a thyroid problem. The evaluation is to identify specific symptoms, medical and family history, cultural factors and environmental factors to arrive at a diagnosis and plan a course of action. Medication:...

Risk factors for depression

Depression can affect anyone—even a person who appears to live in relatively ideal circumstances. Several factors can play a role in depression: Biochemistry: Differences in certain chemicals in the brain may contribute to symptoms of depression. Genetics: Depression can run in families. For example, if one identical twin has depression, the other has a 70 percent chance of having the illness sometime in life. Personality: People with low self-esteem, who are easily overwhelmed by stress, or who are generally pessimistic appear to be more likely to experience depression. Environmental factors: Continuous exposure to violence, neglect, abuse or poverty may make some people more...

Depression is different from sadness or grief/bereavement

The death of a loved one, loss of a job or the ending of a relationship are difficult experiences for a person to endure. It is normal for feelings of sadness or grief to develop in response to such situations. Those experiencing loss often might describe themselves as being “depressed.” But being sad is not the same as having depression. The grieving process is natural and unique to each individual and shares some of the same features of depression. Both grief and depression may involve intense sadness and withdrawal from usual activities. They are also different in important ways: In grief, painful feelings come in waves, often intermixed with positive memories of the deceased....

Depression symptoms can vary from mild to severe and can include:

Feeling sad or having a depressed mood Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed Changes in appetite — weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much Loss of energy or increased fatigue Increase in purposeless physical activity (e.g., hand-wringing or pacing) or slowed movements and speech (actions observable by others) Feeling worthless or guilty Difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions Thoughts of death or suicide Symptoms must last at least two weeks for a diagnosis of depression. Also, medical conditions (e.g., thyroid problems, a brain tumor or vitamin deficiency) can mimic symptoms of depression so it is important to...

Woman Claimed Three Kids She Never Had In Order To Attain State Welfare

I recently read about a woman who committed large scale welfare fraud. For 10 years, she received state benefits for three children. The thing though, is she never actually had the three children. I have no idea what her motive was (other than the obvious, greed.) Assistance programs can literally be a lifeline for the genuinely in need, such as those unable to attain and maintain substantial gainful employment because of major mental or physical disability and such. However, people who do crap like in the story mentioned above, reinforce people’s worst views about assistance recipients.

Mixed martial arts star McGregor appears in court in assault case

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor appeared in court on Friday over an alleged assault on a man in a Dublin pub in April. The 31-year-old Irish fighter stood at the back of the Dublin courtroom as his solicitor, Michael Staines, asked for the case to be adjourned until Nov. 1 pending the disclosure of evidence. A policeman told the court that included CCTV footage. Judge Marie Keane asked the twice Ultimate Fighting Championship title-holder, dressed in a navy pattern suit, to appear again in three weeks’ time when he would be asked to enter a plea or seek a date for the case to be heard. McGregor was charged in a separate case in April 2018 with three...

Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner are laughed at while presenting at Emmys for saying their TV show is about 'real people being themselves'... and Twitter joins in

She's been to the Emmys twice before but on Sunday she was a presenter at the awards show for the first time. However, Kim Kardashian, who took to the stage with half-sister Kendall Jenner to present the award for outstanding competition series, didn't quite get the reaction she probably anticipated from the celebrity-filled audience at the Microsoft Theater.   The auditorium burst into laughter as Kim said: 'Our family knows firsthand how truly compelling television comes from real people just being themselves.' Ouch: Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner made their debut as Emmy presenters on Sunday but the audience laughed when they said reality stars are 'real people just being...
