My Skincare Routine
When it comes to skincare, routines vary from person to person. They can be minimal or extreme, depending on your type of skin, environment, age, and budget. For most teens, the best tip I can recommend would be keep it mild and simple. I use a lot of products and it changes most of the time, as seasons change, my skin changes and adjusts as well. Some products may work on you, but some may not. So, it's still best for you guys to consult a professional first, prior slathering your face with any facial washes or whatnot. All the products listed here are store-bought. I will be sharing with you guys on a different blog how I make my own face masks when I'm on a budget.
I’m very flattered to get requests about my skincare routine! I rarely get pimples and acne, which I'm thankful for my parents' genes. But I do get pimples on common areas, like cheeks, nose, and forehead. Knowing what skin type you have would be one of the most critical points for you to observe to know what routine and which products would be best for you. You may either be; dry, oily, or combination. By dry, your skin can be dry or normal in some areas. By oily, your skin can be oily or normal in some areas. By combination, your skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others
Do you ever walk into the beauty section and feel completely overwhelmed? Who knew there were so many skincare battles to fight? Let's start !
KEEP YOURSELF HYDRATED
Water is essential to maintain the optimum skin moisture. This helps delay the appearance of signs of ageing like wrinkles and fine lines. A nice cold shower and a relaxing bath calm the nerves and reduce the stress related damage to the skin. Drinking water will keep your internal skin moisturize, but what about your outer skin? which brings us to my following tip.
CLEANSE YOUR FACE
Let me just say that, a clean skin is a happy skin! So, reach for a facial cleanser when you wake up and before you go to sleep to help get rid of any excess dirt and oil that may have built up on the surface of your skin throughout the day. I just use a regular soap from Dove which is mild and nourishing, then just rinse with room-temperature water.
LEARN TO EXFOLIATE
Dead skin, dirt, and oil can accumulate on the skin's surface and can clog your pores, and exfoliating can remove them. On this step, I believe any exfoliant would do you well, may it be drugstore or high-end. I fell in love with the St. Ives Apricot Scrub which helps reduce breakouts and prevent acne, unfortunately it's always sold out on most stores/outlets. Lush Cosmetics Ocean Salt is by far my favorite exfoliant ever. I immediately notice how soft and moisturized my skin feels. Texture of the skin felt very smooth and when fully dried, there were no patches of dry skin.
TONE DOWN YOUR FACE
This would not be necessary for everyone, to be honest, but they can be a great adjunct to a skincare regimen for those that need help with oily skin and to gently sweep away dull skin and protect against moisture loss. I rarely use any toners at all, but if you do use toner to balance the PH level of your skin, then great!
MAINTAIN MOISTURE
This is one of the most important steps. Besides keeping yourself hydrated, you also need to moisturize your face. This is the most expensive product I have ever used in my kit, the Tata Harper Moisturizer , but you can get a sample size in stores for you to try it out first, which brings me to this point. I always ask for sample sizes for me to test out and see how the product will wear out on my face. Washing your face regularly may cause dryness, and if you have really oily skin, you still need to moisturize! Laneige is also a great brand to start with basic skincare routines.
APPLY SERUM AND SPRITZ FACIAL SPRAY
I have yet to try any facial serums as of now due to the prices of the products sold in the market today. Serums can be very pricey, and I have yet to discover a serum that's inexpensive but works wonders. The Cult Favorite, I'm a huge fan of the Mario Badescu Skincare Line. I have the three infamous facials sprays that they have released years ago. The first time I tried them, I knew in that moment that these would be my ride or die skincare sprays. These come in Cucumber and Green Tea, Herbs and Rosewater, lastly, Chamomile and Lavender {which unfortunately is not available online, but available in stores}
SLEEP WITH A FACIAL MASK ON
I know it sounds crazy, but honey it works! Face masks are probably the most affordable skincare we can invest on. There are a lot of masks which retails for less than P70 . . . which is a great deal for people on a budget but want to maintain healthy glowy skin. Those who move around when sleeping may have difficulties on this, but I highly recommend. I use any face masks I could find and The Face Shop has a lot to choose from and their face masks offer instantly hydrated skin, nourish and rejuvenate skin, a much-needed detox, even out pigmentation and leave you glowing, give your face a boost of dew-like moisture and radiance.
GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO REST
Bottom line, none of these routines would work if you lack sleep. Let's be honest, we've all been there. Those sleepless nights from a day of school works and a night of work load, but the moment you close your eyes in your comfortable sheets, it's over. We refer to this as beauty sleep. When it comes to your beauty routine, sleep may be the closest thing there is to a fountain of youth. Your body repairs itself and recovers while you snooze, and that leads to a long list of benefits for your looks.
