My 5 Most Favorite Crime Movies (So Far)
Besides writing and reading, one of my most favorite activity is watching films. Crime movies hold a special place in my heart, especially if it is mixed with drama, action, or comedy. Without further ado, here’s my five most favorite movies in my 17 years of living!
1. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
This will sound very subjective because I LOVE Wes Anderson, but I do think the way he directs his movies is brilliant. I also like his storytelling style. The Grand Budapest Hotel is, in my opinion, one of his best work. It’s not heavy—you don’t have to think hard to get the film—and it’s not “cheap”. It’s captivating in its own way. Sure, its plot is not the best and we can find a few mistakes here and there. But this movie is like a gift to your eyes—the color scheme, the interior design of the places in the film, the way it’s shot. Definitely one of my favorite.
2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
If you haven’t watch this movie, then you probably should because The Shawshank Redemption is one of the highest (if not THE highest) rated movie in IMDB. The story is amazing—very simple, but brilliant. The characters—God, I love them. Its plot is almost flawless and I do love a good, happy ending in a good, brilliant crime movie. To put it simply, this movie is impeccable. 10 out of 10!
3. Catch Me If You Can (2002)
You are a poser if you say you’re a movie buff but you haven’t seen this movie! For me, Leonardo DiCaprio’s acting in here is one of his best. And Tom Hanks! Oh, do I love a Tom Hanks character. This movie is exciting, thrilling, and on top of all that, is pure enjoyable. It is not mind-boggling and all that, but it is fun. With Spielberg on the directing side, this movie couldn’t go wrong. Plus, it is based on a true story!
4. Pulp Fiction (1994)
Ah, Quentin Tarantino’s movie! I love the storytelling style and the way the scenes are captured. I also enjoy John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bruce Willis together in one movie. Pulp Fiction is thrilling, pretty freaky, and gory in the best possible way. It is entertaining to watch, but still leave a mark in your head and heart once you finished watching. Love the dialogues. Legendary!
5. 21 Jump Street (2012)
I feel like I’m throwing a wild card here, but God, I do enjoy this movie. It’s funny—just what you would expect from such a cast list. In fact, I prefer seeing Channing Tatum in this kind of movies, instead of romance movies like Dear, John or The Vow. It’s a typical buddy-cop movie, but the dialogues and one-liners work SO GOOD in here. All the dirty jokes are not over the line, the punchline are not dry, and it’s pure exciting and easy to watch. Recommended if you wanna have a good laugh!
That’s probably all I have to say. And this is only my opinion, not to say this movies are the best of all time. What about you? What’s your favorite crime movies?
It's not a crime movie, but I really like the original Mad Max movie with Mel Gibson.
